I enjoyed this book much more than the second installment, The Night Drifter. The hero and heroine in Midnight Bride are much more vivid, their anguish and emotions are more raw and touching. They were both introduced nicely in the Night Drifter. Kate is a strong, endearing heroine and I loved Val's Jekyll & Hyde storyline. After getting to know him so well in the second book, witnessing the dark side of him was surprising and exciting. Their relationship was passionate and sensual, which I think I enjoyed even more because it was so unexpected. My one complaint would be that I found Rafe Mortmain's side story to be lengthy and tedious. Since he was such an integral character to the story, I would have preferred that he had interacted more with the main characters. I also would have liked to see Lance take a more active role in helping his brother, but he wasn't much of a hero in the Night Drifter, so at least he's consistent. I found the plot to be fairly predictable, but I still enjoyed the ride and the end result. Loved the last scene and the epilogue!

This is one of my favorite authors. I highly recommend her books. Start with The Bridefinder for full reading experience.
Great romance with paranormal historical element.
Susan Carroll = great story No overwhelming sexual content, just enough. Some violence but not excessive.
Really enjoy fantasy reading. Great entertainment. Love a masculine man who takes care of his woman and loves her eternally.

In my opinion, this book was much better than The Night Drifter. The plot is original and unpredictable, the characters are well-developed so much so that you 'feel' with them, and the writing is great! It was nice to see Val finally be human and have a dark side. When I first saw that he was the hero, I almost didn't read it, but Carroll works magic with him in this book. I'd recommend it to anyone who enjoys a really good book.
A terrific story with a rousing series of final events. This time the author creates more than a love story. It's got it all here, magic, mystery, the awesome Prospero. The love scenes were rocking. Everything about this book was different and interesting. A wonderful side storyline of redemption too that proved as moving as the main story itself. Characterizations of Val & Kate were especially compelling, as was even Victor, and of course Rafe.

I hope Val & Kate build their home at Lostland! I'll be watching for anymore in the series. I have begun to like the St. Leger's that I didn't care for in the first book BRIDE FINDER.
